State Of Grace

I remember it well

The way he gathered himself

He looked fragile and weak

But covered how he felt

Then you held out your hand and he rose to his feet

With all that he had, drenched in belief

Until his eyes were aligned with nothing but you

And then slowly you rolled back your years

Never lonely, together you braved your fears

And I’d never seen a state of grace like this

A love that shone under the darkest bliss

Married almost fifty years

Now the pain he holds he can’t resist

But you can bet that he won’t give up loving you

You can bet that he won’t give up loving you

He was told not to move, to skip the plane

But there was no way he’d miss his daughter’s day

Such a stubborn man with a bullish desire

Still you know that he’d be there for you

As he stood strong, the proudest of fathers

And I’d never seen a state of grace like this

A love that shone under the darkest bliss

Married almost fifty years

Now the pain he holds he can’t resist

But you can bet that he won’t give up loving you

You can bet that he won’t give up loving you
